Rev. Christopher J. Devron, SJ
President

RevDevronPhoto.jpgRev. Christopher J. Devron is the founding President of Christ the King Jesuit College Prep. A native of the Chicago area, Fr. Devron earned a BA in philosophy and government from the University of Notre Dame in 1989 and entered the Society of Jesus in 1991. In the course of his Jesuit formation, Fr. Devron has earned an MA in the history of philosophy from Loyola University Chicago, an MDiv from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology, and an MA in theology with a concentration in African-American religious experience through coursework at Harvard Divinity School and the Institute for Black Catholic Studies at Xavier University in New Orleans.

From 1995 to 1996, Fr. Devron was executive director of the Inner-City Teaching Corps in Chicago, which recruits recent college graduates to teach in inner-city schools throughout the city. He then taught for a year at the Gonzaga Middle School Program for Boys in Harlem, and created a scholarship program to assist Gonzaga graduates attend private high schools. The following year, he was assigned as director of the Loyola Youth Center in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Following his ordination in 2001, Fr. Devron has worked as the founding director of REACH (Recruiting Excellence for Academics in Catholic High Schools), an initiative of Regis High School to identify, recruit, and financially assist academically gifted middle school boys to attend Regis and other top Jesuit high schools in New York. He has also taught theology and worked as a campus minister and chair of the committee on diversity at Regis, served as a weekend associate at the Church of St. Joseph in Harlem, and published articles in America, The Tablet, the Journal of Popular Culture, and BustedHalo.com. Fr. Devron is listed in Who’s Who of American Teachers and Educators.

Mr. Darryl Hobson
Associate Principal

CTK Faculty and Staff 016.jpgMr. Darryl Hobson returned to his West Side roots and to Jesuit secondary education as the founding Dean of Students and is now the Assistant Principal for Student Services.  He came to CTK after spending three years at Brother Rice High School as Director of Counseling and a football coach—where he had previously served a two-year stint as counselor, track and football coach earlier in his career.  From 2003-2005, he served as a guidance counselor at St. Ignatius College Prep, where he also coached football and track.  He had worked at two other Jesuit high schools in New York City, as well: Regis, where for three years he was a counselor and track coach (the school’s Hobson Trophy for intramural football is named after him); and Xavier High School, where he coached football.  Mr. Hobson also coached football at St. Xavier University in Chicago, serving as defensive coordinator while earning his MA in Counseling/Psychology.  He had previously served as defensive coordinator and Girls’ Track coach at Rockford Jefferson High School and was the parent-community liaison for Flinn and Lincoln Middle Schools there.  Darryl has a BA in Finance from Benedictine University.

 

Mr. Ruston Broussard
Assistant Principal for Academics and Faculty, Mathematics

CTK Faculty and Staff 007.jpgMr. Ruston Broussard came to Christ the King as the founding Math teacher and is now the Assistant Principal.  Prior to joining CtK from 2006 to 2009, Mr. Broussard taught math and coached track at Loyola Academy in Wilmette.  As a member of the University of Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) Program, Mr. Broussard taught math and theology for two years at St. Jude Educational Institute in Montgomery, AL, where he also served as chair of the Math Department.  In addition, the ACE Program afforded him a teaching opportunity at Mishawaka (IN) High School near South Bend.  As a volunteer in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps: South for the 2003-2004 school year, Ruston worked at Smithson Craighead Academy in Nashville, TN.  He is a graduate of Loyola University (New Orleans) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math and a minor in Computer Information Systems.

Counselor

Ms. Nicole Merz is the Counselor at Christ the King.  Nicole earned her Master’s in School Counseling at Concordia University (River Forest).  As part of her studies at Concordia, she completed 400 hours of Clinical Practicum Field Placement Experience under the supervision of a School Psychologist at Lisle Senior High School.  Nicole is a 2004 graduate of Benedictine University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
