Lizzy Seeberg Legacy Fund Purchases Home for CTK Jesuit
Alumni Volunteers
Help Us With
the Final Push to Renovate To Move Our Volunteers In Time for the Upcoming
School Year
They come
to CTK as enterprising young adults with a recent college degree, a passion for
teaching and a desire to create positive change for our students. As members of
our Jesuit Alumni Volunteer Program (JAVs), these special young people are committed to service and
volunteer two years mentoring and inspiring our students on a path to college.
They teach, they coach, they chaperone and plan service projects and give of
their time 24/7.
Now, we're
excited to announce that The Lizzy Seeberg Memorial Fund, in loving memory of
the 19-year-old Northbrook youth, has helped us purchase a home across the street
for our dedicated team of young adult volunteers. The renovated building will
provide a much-needed closer home for our JAV team, who currently live miles
away in the Pilsen neighborhood.
"Our volunteers come from Jesuit and Catholic universities across the country and are committed to helping
our students grow spiritually and personally." says Rev. Christopher J. Devron,
S.J.

"They give so much to our students and we are so thrilled to be able to
offer them a place to call home during their time with us. The Lizzy Seeberg
Volunteer House spreads our shining light and hope across the street and
broadens our efforts to bring hope to the whole West Side."
The three-flat is named in honor
of the Northbrook teen -- one of the first volunteers at our school -- and thanks
to the generosity of her parents, Tom and Mary Seeberg, we are making the dream
of a home for our volunteers a reality.
Already, 117 donors have helped us to
raise $160,000. Many were close friends and Seeberg family members. We
hope you would consider joining them to honor this extraordinary young woman and
make it possible for more young people like her to put their faith in action and
help make a difference in the lives of West Side high school students.
We're
almost there, but in order to get the house in move-in shape for the fall 2011
school year, we need to raise $80,000 to pay for the restoration work needed.
We need your help to help us
cover the final costs to renovate the building in time for the fall 2011 school
year.
“We’re
very excited about this very visible and needed opportunity to honor the memory
of a wonderful young woman who was one of the first volunteers to help our
students,” adds Rev. Devron.
One of
CTK's first volunteers, Lizzy was a junior at Glenbrook North High School in
Northbrook and a member of the St. Norbert's Catholic Church youth ministry when
she rallied her friends to reach out to help CTK students, She and her friends
crafted picture frames they sold to raise monies for CTK.
“Lizzy had a real sense that God had
blessed her, and she wanted to give back to those who were not fortunate to have
equal access to a solid education,” says Rev. Devron. “For her youthful age, she
had a mature awareness about injustice and wanted to make the world a better
place.”
