Good evening everyone how are you all doing awesome my name is Maya Peters and I graduated from CTK in 2014 as a valedictorian I presented at King of Hearts my senior year now since leaving ctk I'm graduating from Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut as a posse scholar Bachelors of Science in psychology you have yes and so now I'm looking to pursue a career in diversity and inclusion Consulting isn't about me I am here and very honored to present tonight keynote speaker Jenelle Peters introduce genetic how many of you have a best friend please raise your hand that's okay it looks like you guys have some great support systems in your life so when I was about four years old I was so bored I had nobody to play with and I beg for a little sister little sister but never did I think that my mom would give birth to my best friend Janelle Peters there's no one quite like you are such an amazing eloquent imaginative creative young lady and you know what my favorite thing about you is that you're hilarious we have so many jokes that we have together Janelle you started your own jewelry business you are amazing at your work at Westlawn Youth Center she has been the lead photographer there for the past 8 years a gift from class for that yes Janelle we are so proud of you and we are excited to see your dreams become reality and helping my best friend and little sister Janelle Peters to the stage thank you thank you my wonderful wonderful as you all know I'm Janelle Peters I am a senior in the class of 2019 and it is such an honor to be here with you tonight play remember me from last year's presentation when I introduce our founding president father Chris Devron for those of you who are wondering I did not try out for the football team I did however Sephora players by playing in the band at RC I'm standing before you tonight as the keynote speaker this means I get to introduce you all to myself but before I get to my own story I must inform you of my roots the story of Janelle Peter starts in the 1920s with the birth of my great-grandparents they're born in Sunflower Mississippi and we're raising the time where sharecropping was the only option to support their growing family they left Elementary School in the second grade to provide for their parents and themselves can you all imagine that just for a second we are six years old again can you remember the sweet promise childhood the extra time for naps the sweet promise of field trips to the field museum and petting zoos if you were asked my great-grandparents I will tell you of the early mornings is up by 5 a.m. to walk down a Dusty Rhodes with a parents to go to the plantations where they spent the entire day picking cotton their day is revolved around the weights of the bags that they say a light bag men an empty stomach and a heavy responsibility to provide later on in their lives my great-grandparents took what they learn and passed down to their children my lovely grandparents I brought with me tonight if you would have asked my father my grandfather he will tell you the days when you ride his bike around the neighborhood delivering newspapers before going to school he will tell you all the time when you use the bathroom outside of public places because blacks weren't allowed inside what do you also so you of how he did not let the racism that surrounding his childhood hinder him what he's grew up he turned playing with toy cars into his dream profession of owning an auto repair shop my grandma I will tell you of the days when she first came to Chicago helping her mother and father devote themselves to the family of 7 that they had started she will share with you the hardships of being the eldest sibling and having to grow up fast he's the weight for a parents she will tell you how she followed her parents examples to raise her own children when she became an adult she's a wise and carry woman was the blue that strengthens my family my mother my rock she would tell you how she turned her own childhood dreams into her dream job of being a nail shop owner my sister she would tell you she grew up being a role model for younger family members she makes being the oldest look so easy parole as the first college graduate in my family makes me appreciate all the struggles that she has gone through so that I don't have to it is because of the four generations of family that have come before me. I'm able to stay here is because of their humble beginnings I'm able to choose a path that I actually want to walk on in life Devon Still multiples of dedication and love into me if it weren't for them I wouldn't be myself I am a small package with a lot to offer I offer my love for the Arts anyone who knows me will tell you of how much I love to draw paint and make anything Sparkle with they will tell you how you can find me in the band room playing guitar player neck or piano I offer compassion and understanding for others because I love to see the good shine offer my dedication and Leadership I'm a proud member of many student organizations at cck and have been awarded the title of being a Daniel Murphy Posse Illinois state in Chicago Stalin is because of my dedication to set myself up for a great future that I put my cell phone places 50k is one of those is the city case I'm able to offer my face to Pier Ministry leadership are Retreats and service trips to my peers I'm able to offer my open-minded attitude to the Core work study program that has allowed me to work with great companies such as the Chicago Tribune Media Group and Ryan Specialty Group is it opportunities not able to offer my ideas and plans to the world in the future I will start my own business that will allow use of color to express themselves in a Fine Arts I will also incorporate education into this company I don't want to find a practical job that will help them reach their full potential the future is mine to have people who have come before me nothing will be possible is my job that I make sure that I keep passing on the torch of Hope and inspiration and as a second person in my family to attend college forward to learning all that I can and traveling to all the places that are waiting on my Horizon I look forward to telling the next generation of the amazing Janelle Peters.
