CTK Class of 2019 Announce College Decisions

On Monday May 13th, our 71 members of the senior class took a big step forward in their journeys to and through college. As part of the College Signing Day ceremony the students revealed their college choices in front of their families, friends, co-workers, and full CTK community. Their hard work in the classroom, their Corporate Work Study job offices, and during the college admissions process has paid off in the achievement of their dream of going to college.

For the 8th consecutive year, 100% of our seniors were accepted to college. For many of our students, they will be the first in their families to enroll in college. Daniel Zundel, CTK Guidance Counselor, noted in his introductory comments, “The road ahead for the Class of 2019 will be full of many new challenges, but also one of new joys and dreams. Today we celebrate how, but for the Grace of God, we have made it this far, and how this same grace is going to take us forward in our future.”

The morning ceremony included motivational talks from keynote speaker, Traci O’Neal Ellis and CTK alumni Marthael Crockett ’15, Dominican University, ’20. Ms. Ellis, an attorney, HR executive, and published author encouraged the graduating seniors “to level up, and use your minds as Gladiators to overcome obstacles and inequalities.” Mr. Crockett shared how his persistence since leaving CTK has helped him to overcome some missteps and failures to put him on a path to completing his Psychology degree at Dominican University.

This CTK tradition always represents a great opportunity for our senior leaders to show the underclassmen that hard work and perseverance over the course of four years pays off. As senior student, Aisia, acknowledged, “Christ the King has prepared me for college. The load of homework was rigorous, and I had to do things like stay after school on a Friday, or miss fun with friends. As my senior year comes to an end, I am proud to say I’ve been accepted into over 25 schools. I will be setting the world on fire at Fisk University, one of the original black Ivys!”

The Class of 2019 will be venturing to schools near and far including the University of Alabama, Arrupe College of Loyola University Chicago, University of Dayton, University of Illinois-Chicago, Howard University, Marquette University, and Southern Illinois.

Congratulations to all of our seniors – go set the world on fire!
