Protecting Students

Christ the King provides a safe and caring environment for its students. Each adult employee and school volunteer has the obligation to act as a professional and educator at all times. Safety is ensured by adhering to the following policies and procedures.

 

Standards for CTK Employees & Volunteers

  • Screening
    • For the safety of our staff and students and in accordance with the regulations of the State of Illinois and the Archdiocese of Chicago, Christ the King conducts background checks on all applicants for employment, employees, contractors, and volunteers.

    • In accordance with the regulations of the State of Illinois, all new staff must have their fingerprints taken, as part of criminal history record checks with IL State Police & FBI.

    • Processing of all employees through the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services State Central Register, a child abuse/neglect tracking system (CANTS), which includes all reports of suspected child abuse or neglect, as well as the outcome of the investigation of these reports.

    • Required orientation and ongoing training for all employees through Protecting God’s Children/ VIRTUS.

    • All Jesuit employees are accredited by Praesidium.

  • Mandated Reporters
    • All CTK employees are “mandated reporters” as outlined in the State of Illinois’ Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act, 325 ILCS 5/1, et seq. All staff must complete Mandated Reporter training. If a CTK employee has reasonable cause to believe a student, known to them in his/her professional and official capacity, may be an abused or neglected child, s/he shall immediately report or cause a report to be made to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services by contacting the Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-25-ABUSE.

  • Boundaries Education for Employees
    • All employees and regular volunteers are required to participate in an orientation and ongoing training through VIRTUS

  • Standards for Faculty and Staff Interaction with Students

    • CTK Standards document established outlining appropriate and inappropriate interaction with students.  All employees required to review and sign that they are in full compliance.

  • How to Report an Allegation of Abuse or Inappropriate Behavior

    • FOR CTK STUDENTS, ALUMNI AND PARENTS

      If you are a current or former CTK student, parent or caregiver and feel that you or a CTK student has been the victim of any inappropriate behavior by an adult, who works or volunteers at Christ the King, you should report it to your counselor, the Principal, or any adult at CTK or at home with whom you feel comfortable. You may also contact the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services at their Child Abuse Hotline 1-800-252-2873 (1-800-25-ABUSE) and/or the Chicago Police Department

    • FOR CTK EMPLOYEES AND VOLUNTEERS
      If you are a CTK teacher, counselor, coach, staff member or administrator and you have reasonable cause to believe a student, known to you in your professional and official capacity, may be an abused or neglected child, you are required to make a report or cause a report to be made to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services at the Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-25-ABUSE and to the Principal.
