good evening ladies and gentlemen mr. healthy said I am Ciara Lee a member of Christ The King's first graduating class class of 2012 tonight I have the honor of representing 331 fellow alumni it was not long ago that I attended the king of heart actually it was in 2010 I was a sophomore and a praise dancer in May of 2016 I graduated from University of Illinois champagne with my ba with my BA in political science in August I began a program to earn my Master's in criminal justice at Loyola University I will finish that this December for not being in class I want to give a special thanks to God whose blessings I am forever grateful I also want to thank a very special lady my mom who is here tonight she's I am lost for words because she has been a phenomenal support thank you for being the wind behind me push me to be the best encouraging me along the way and loving me unconditionally thank you Mom this year marks Martin here since the opening of Christ the King and I must say I was shocking have how fast time passes by I remember walking into the old building on LeClaire and Washington to find our principal mr. Conroy Smiley and directing everyone to head downstairs to the basement prayer and Gathering I remember mr. Hopkins engineering slogan I love you and there is nothing you can do about it I even remember the black beans lined against the wall in the hallway as law don't have real lockers until we move into the new building as my journey began at ctk I received my work study assignment at Community Investment corporation C I C & C i c i not only game work experience but I gain some phenomenal mentors along the way like Monica Kirby crc's office manager she is here tonight tell me all the essentials involved with administrative work how to deposit check and prepare documents for the company's Property Management training classes thanks to my work ethic and how fast I can complete tasks I was soon asked if I was work over summer break of course I said yes because I would be able to keep all the money before I knew it I was a sophomore Junior Senior High Graduation I have worked at cic and every summer for all four years of high school I didn't stop there I also work every summer doing asleep by the time I was 21 I had worked there for 8 years professional mentor to always check up on me let me know how proud she was of me and most importantly we still share June birthdays hey Geminis my corporate The Experience taught me the importance of punctuality efficiency great communication skills and confidence Christ the King prepare me to be successful in college my teachers motivated me and Tommy's dr. Barlow taught me how to take good notes and to finish my assignments on time mr. Daley on the same assigning paper after paper after paper after paper tabular writing skills those paper really got on my nerves but looking back writing papers now comes easily mrs. Kelly's top us to try to do what was right and lean on our face in time of adversity and since we didn't have uniforms when I went to ctk even learn to dress for school set for success when I asked the college when I got to college I had a leg up on my peers I have been balancing work and school life in high school and you are right I knew I wanted to study political science and eventually criminal justice and high school I lost 8 family members to Chicago's gun violence and a little fire and mean to do some I mean to do that Criminal Court psychology social work ethics and much more for future attorneys I volunteer with children with developmental disabilities I received while being on the Dean's List for multiple semesters in college if I was about to graduate from from U of I miss a call mean to say how Christ the King were so proud of me and of me and that I was graduating and want to check on my future career plans the work-study office she connected me to the Cook County Sheriff's Office who is now employing cck students within a few weeks I was hired as a research fellow I am evaluating programs to help reduce recidivism for men and especially for women as they are released from jail once I complete my masters this December plan to work with high risk involved in the criminal justice system to develop a plan of action to the birthing from criminal activity and on to a more positive path as many use of color are disproportionately involved in the criminal justice system I plan to use my knowledge of Juvenile Justice to create a feasible feasible and support system for juvenile transition into a criminal investigations after working with juveniles for a few years as I look back over the past 10 years I am grateful to have been apart of a CPK experience because of this unique opportunity I matured into an educated motivated independent face field and optimistic young woman who set the world on fire thank you to everyone who partners with cck to make this Mission possible your support a unique opportunity that was certainly for the rest of my life you have done this not only for me but for all of us thank you so much thank you ladies and gentlemen enjoy the rest of your evening and welcome cpk's president mr.
