Christ the King Jesuit College Prep is a Catholic Jesuit secondary school (grades 9-12) using the Cristo Rey model to serve young men and women from the Austin neighborhood and surrounding communities of Chicago’s West Side. Christ the King opened in August 2008, and is celebrating its 16th anniversary during the 2023-2024 school year.
The Cristo Rey Network of 39 high schools, including Christ the King, delivers a career focused, college prep education in the Catholic tradition for students with limited economic resources, uniquely integrating rigorous academic curricula with four years of professional work experience and support to and through college. Cristo Rey partners with educators, businesses, and communities to enable students to fulfill their aspirations for a lifetime of success.
Through the Cristo Rey model, Christ the King makes possible the dream of a quality and affordable education for students whose families could not otherwise pay the tuition charged by private schools. The median income for a CTK family of 4 is $29,465, one of the lowest of Cristo Rey Network schools. 100% of CTK students receive a free breakfast and lunch through the National School Lunch Program. Each CTK student participates in the unique Corporate Work Study Program, working 5 days a month to earn the majority of their tuition costs while gaining valuable, life-changing skills and experience through jobs at 80+ Chicago area businesses and non-profit companies.
The Austin community has one of the highest unemployment and poverty rates in Illinois. CTK helps to break the cycle by preparing our students for college and eventual employment. For 13 consecutive years, 100% of CTK’s seniors have been accepted into a college/university. Over 86% of our alumni enroll in college and graduate at over two times the rate of their socioeconomic peers.
Inspired by our annual College Signing Day on Monday, May 20th, we are joining with other Cristo Rey Network schools on May 1st for the first ever Cristo Rey Giving Day. Gifts provided to CTK through this program will help to support college-related programs and Corporate Work Study Program career training and experiences.
